Emma Wilkie- Adkins A.I.D.T.A
Principal and Teacher
I have worked professionally as a dancer, teacher and choreographer for over 25 years.
Having been cast in a production at the age of 6, I knew that whatever I did in the future it would have to involve performing!
After some wonderful baby ballet classes I attended more regular dance classes from the age of 7 and performed and competed throughout my training. After being given an opportunity to teach younger dancers, I found a love for teaching and coaching. I began to teach pupils in Ballet, Tap, Freestyle and Modern and coached teams and individuals for competitions and exams, during this time I started training towards teacher qualifications with the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association).
After many years of performing around the UK and abroad as a dancer, singer and choreographer, I was lucky enough to work permanently in the UK, recruiting and auditioning singers, dancers and entertainers for contracts in theatre companies and show teams.
Having decided that I wanted to return to teaching full time, I studied alongside my job and qualified as an Associate teacher with the IDTA in 2012.
I worked as a freelance teacher in the Devon area and after relocating back to Exmouth permanently, I was very excited to be able to start my own dance school 'Starting Pointe Dance and Performing Arts'.
Dance, music and performing have always been my passion and I love to share that passion with students.
The aim of Starting Pointe Dance and Performing Arts is to nurture creativity, inspire, train and create a wonderful, encouraging environment where each child can reach their full potential. Our classes will give our students the skills necessary to either pursue a career within the industry, or simply to learn and enjoy dancing and performing.
